$40 for a Christmas tree and they don't deliver?!

Lately I've been so good at making excuses for myself. In fact, I have so many I'm giving them away for Christmas wrapped in beautiful paper and topped with a big red bow.

Do you want a few?

I need to get rid of them all because they aren't cutting it for me anymore.

Send me your address and I'll get them to you right away.

I need to do better.

Ok, I'm glad that's off my chest.

********************

My engaged roommate has set a date for her wedding: March 25th.

After Christmas I'm going dress shopping with her. I'm excited because I've never been wedding dress shopping with anyone before.

Her wedding is on a Friday and she is having the reception that very night, which makes sense to me because the next day is Saturday which means they can sleep in and cuddle if they want, which is a very good thing for newly-married people to do, in my opinion- both the sleeping and the cuddling. (Sorry for the very bad run on sentence).

********************

One of my friends started a Christmas blog with crafts and other nice present ideas including food. Have a look-see!

********************

Another one of my friends is moving back to this town from Manhattan, NY this very day. We met in July and he's been going through a pretty rough time in his life, so he wants a fresh start. I'm looking forward to him not being so far away.

********************

Last Christmas my sister and I got a coupon for a week of free tanning at a tanning salon. We went almost every day and even though I know tanning is so bad (microwaving our insides and all that) the heat felt so good when it was time to go back out in the frigid air of winter.

********************

I'm really super excited to go home for Christmas!! Really excited!

********************

Now for some counting:

10 days until Christmas
7 days till I go home for Christmas
3 days till my sister comes home from BYU-I for Christmas (that is unless she moved her flight up and is coming home today...)

********************

We are having a white elephant gift exchange at our apartment on Friday night! What is the best white elephant gift you've ever received? Let's discuss this...

********************

By the way, Christmas is for families. I'm so excited to see mine, but I've already discussed that. Just wanted to make sure you knew.

********************

P.S. 10 bonus points if you can name the movie where this post title comes from...

P.P.S. At least you didn't pay $40 for this blog post, otherwise you'd be dissapointed I didn't deliver for you.

Random Thoughts

It's December 2nd already -almost December 3rd (where has the time gone?!) which means that there are only 23 (really 20 since I don't shop on Sundays) days to do Christmas shopping. I better get a move on it.

I'm hungry. It's 11:39pm and I really shouldn't be eating this late, but if I don't eat my stomach will be growling all night and I won't get much sleep.

I miss my family. Even though I was just home for Thanksgiving I miss them again (or is it still?)

A friend told me tonight that the only time I'm happy is when I go home. I disagreed with him, but I don't think he believed me.

This same friend just got back from a trip to Hong Kong to train for Kung Fu. He wants to go back.

He saw the world's biggest Buddha.

He did not go on a moving sidewalk.

He did not bring me back a post card like I demanded kindly requested. The stinker.

Friends and I will be going to a nursing home tomorrow to sing Christmas carols and deliver cookies and cards.

The cards turned out really nice. We thought of just letting the people look at them and admire them while we were there and then re-collecting them as we left to bring back next year.

But that would be mean, so I don't think we'll do that, but it is a very tempting thought.

When I was home over Thanksgiving we cut down our Christmas tree. It's a cute little thing. (I'll post about this tradition soon).

I officially started listening to Christmas music since Thanksgiving is over.

I have a strict policy that there is no Christmas music until after Thanksgiving.

But this year I cheated a little bit and listened to one (1) Christmas CD before Thanksgiving.

I enjoyed it.

It snowed today! The 2nd little snow fall of the season.

The snow is pretty much all melted.

I still haven't brushed my teeth.

We have Stake Conference on Sunday. At 10am rather than the usual 1pm meeting time. That's gonna be hard.

I haven't read the Harry Potter books. I've thought about it, but just haven't gotten the gumption to do it yet.

It is now 11:59pm. It shouldn't have taken me this long to write this post.

You're welcome for my random thoughts.

Good night.

Three Happenings, a Thought, and a Question

I had another post planned, but these things are more pressing so it will have to wait.

1. I came home from work today to find this:

My door had been painted red! I like it, especially since red is my favorite color.

2. This bookcase was carried up three flights of stairs to my apartment, taken out of the box, directions read, and assembled....all by me. I think it turned out well, though I was afraid it would tip over the first night it was up. Thankfully it's still standing....

And it wouldn't be complete without this deliciousness!

3. I saw Bump-its on clearance when I was in the store the other day. I was going to buy them for my sister for Christmas. I wonder if she would wear them...

4. What is the difference between transparent tape and invisible tape?

5. I like graham crackers with chocolate frosting.

Any questions?

Because this is what is on my mind...

Change is hard for me.

When I was younger I didn't have such a problem with it, but in the past month I have had a lot of changes:

1. I changed apartments and I am no longer living with my two roommates who I had lived with since September of 2008.

2. I received a new calling at the beginning of May which is overwhelming and kind of stressing me out. Just a little bit. It's getting better though.

3. School ended today and I will miss the kids that I worked with.

4. I am starting a new job in ten days. And I am nervous about it.

5. Our institute director is moving to Boston. Tonight was his last class. I will really miss him.

6. A couple in my branch who started dating shortly after I moved here, are now married. I served with him as FHE co-chair and I taught them the temple preparation class. It feels like they were my little sister and brother. It wasn't the same without them in the branch on Sunday. But they have moved on to better things and I am very happy for them.

From institute tonight, I realized that I need to control my anger better.

I need to have more faith.

I need to work harder because as Elder Paul Pieper, who was the presiding member of the Seventy at our recent Stake Conference, said: "there is no virtual Celestial Kingdom."

I need to do better.

This quote directly below is from institute tonight and it really stuck out to me. As I was thinking about it, I remembered the quote on charity by Elder Marvin J. Ashton which seems in many ways to be the opposite of anger.

"We've all felt anger. It can come when things don't turn out the way we want. It might be a reaction to something which is said of us or to us. We may experience it when people don't behave the way we want them to behave. Perhaps it comes when we have to wait for something longer than we expected. We might feel angry when others can't see things from our perspective. There seems to be countless possible reasons for anger. Thomas S. Monson

"...But really, true charity is much, much more.

Real charity is not something you give away; it is something that you acquire and make a part of yourself. And when the virtue of charity becomes implanted in your heart, you are never the same again. It makes the thought of being a basher repulsive.

Perhaps the greatest charity comes when we are kind to each other, when we don’t judge or categorize someone else, when we simply give each other the benefit of the doubt or remain quiet. Charity is accepting someone’s differences, weaknesses, and shortcomings; having patience with someone who has let us down; or resisting the impulse to become offended when someone doesn’t handle something the way we might have hoped. Charity is refusing to take advantage of another’s weakness and being willing to forgive someone who has hurt us. Charity is expecting the best of each other." Marvin J. Ashton

I am grateful for faith and a loving Heavenly Father. And even though it's hard, I am grateful I can change.

"...I know that he loveth is children; nevertheless, I do not know the meaning of all things." (1 Nephi 11:17), But I am grateful for a Heavenly Father who does know all things and has our best interest at heart.

Two Thoughts

Thought #1:

Today, at work, I heard a lady say: "That's as cute as Hades." (But she used the other word). And I thought to myself, "I don't think that place she's talking about is very cute." It seems like a strange way to express cuteness...but maybe it's just me that thinks that.

Thought #2:

Have you ever smelled your hands? I mean, REALLY smelled them? They don't smell good. I, for one, know I need to wash my hands more.

Okay, I have a thought #3:

I'm sure you've seen this video, but it cracks me up every time I watch it.

Thought #4:

Alright, this is my last thought. I promise.

Even since I've gotten my computer back from crashing it won't play DVDs anymore and it makes me very sad. It gives me this little message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer." I don't know what to do about it either. Any thoughts or help you can give would be greatly appreciated. I would forever be in your debt! :-(
