Remembering and Thanking
This Memorial Day I am honoring and remembering those men and women who have given up their comfort to ensure the comfort and freedom of the rest of us.
I mourn for those families who have lost loved ones as a result of conflicts. My heart is filled with gratitude as I honor them and their sacrifice.
Thank you, soldiers, for your service.

Greater Blessings and More Happiness...
A friend in my branch here in Lexington just received her mission call today!
Anticipating! She was sooo patient! (She had two Skype/video calls on the computers in front of her).
"Dear Sister E.- You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the Utah Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission."
"You should report to the Provo Missionary Training Center on Wednesday, July 7th."
It brought back such great memories of opening my own mission call.
Congratulations, Jessica! You will be great!
Here is a video of her opening it.

Two Thoughts
Thought #1:
Today, at work, I heard a lady say: "That's as cute as Hades." (But she used the other word). And I thought to myself, "I don't think that place she's talking about is very cute." It seems like a strange way to express cuteness...but maybe it's just me that thinks that.
Thought #2:
Have you ever smelled your hands? I mean, REALLY smelled them? They don't smell good. I, for one, know I need to wash my hands more.
Okay, I have a thought #3:
I'm sure you've seen this video, but it cracks me up every time I watch it.
Thought #4:
Alright, this is my last thought. I promise.
Even since I've gotten my computer back from crashing it won't play DVDs anymore and it makes me very sad. It gives me this little message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer." I don't know what to do about it either. Any thoughts or help you can give would be greatly appreciated. I would forever be in your debt! :-(

The Heart of a Woman
I know this is a con-jumbled mess but these are my thoughts this Mother's Day....
(I'm not sure where most of the quotes came from, but I wrote them down in a notebook from my mission...)
"If you're concerned about worrying your mother, not letting her know what's going on isn't the answer. She's already worried about what you're not telling her."
"You're never too mature to tell your troubles to your mother, or to feel afterward as if somehow the situation has already improved."
"Your mother appreciates an invitation but she won't wait for one if she thinks you need her."
"No matter how much practice she has, a mother never has an easy time saying good-bye."
"A daughter who believes in herself still benefits from the guidance and love of her mother."
"A mother dries your tears and doesn't say "I told you so" even when you're crying because you finally found out what she's been trying to tell you all along."
"God could not be everywhere, therefore He made mothers." Jewish proverb
“Motherhood, is near to divinity. It is the highest, holiest service to be assumed by mankind. It places her who honors its holy calling and service next to the angels." First Presidency
“When you have come to the Lord in meekness and lowliness of heart and, as one mother said, “pounded on the doors of heaven to ask for, to plead for, to demand guidance and wisdom and help for this wondrous task,” that door is thrown open to provide you the influence and the help of all eternity. Claim the promises of the Savior of the world. Ask for the healing balm of the Atonement for whatever may be troubling you or your children. Know that in faith things will be made right in spite of you, or more correctly, because of you. You can’t possibly do this alone, but you do have help. The Master of Heaven and Earth is there to bless you—He who resolutely goes after the lost sheep, sweeps thoroughly to find the lost coin, waits everlastingly for the return of the prodigal son. Yours is the work of salvation, and therefore you will be magnified, compensated, made more than you are and better than you have ever been as you try to make honest effort, however feeble you may sometimes feel that to be.” Jeffrey R. Holland, “‘Because She Is a Mother’,” Ensign, May 1997, 35
“The responsibility mothers have today has never required more vigilance. More than at any time in the history of the world, we need mothers who know. Children are being born into a world where they “wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." However, mothers need not fear. When mothers know who they are and who God is and have made covenants with Him, they will have great power and influence for good on their children.” Julie B. Beck
Women have strengths that amaze men.
They bear hardships and they carry burdens, but they hold happiness, love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream. They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous. They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up to injustice. They don't take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without so their family can have.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about a birth or a wedding.
Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They grieve at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors. They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning. They bring joy, hope and love.
They have compassion and ideas.
They give moral support to their family and friends.
Women have vital things to say and everything to give.
However, if there is one flaw in women, it is that they forget their worth.
By the time the Lord made mothers, he was into his sixth day of working overtime. An Angel appeared and said “Why are you spending so much time on this one”? And the Lord answered and said, “Have you seen the spec sheet on her? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic; have 200 movable parts, all replaceable; run on {hot chocolate} and leftovers; have a lap that can hold three children at one time and that disappears when she stands up; have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart, and have six pairs of hands.”
The Angel was astounded at the requirements for this one. “Six pairs of hands! No Way!” said the Angel.
The Lord replied, “Oh, it’s not the hands that are the problem. It’s the three pairs of eyes that mothers must have!”
“And that’s just on the standard model?” The Angel asked.
The Lord nodded in agreement, “Yes, one pair of eyes are to see through the closed door as she asks her children what they are doing even though she already knows. Another pair in the back of her head, are to see what she needs to know even though no one thinks she can. And the third pair are here in the front of her head. They are for looking at an errant child and saying that she understands and loves him or her without even saying a single word."
The Angel tried to stop the Lord. “This is too much work for one day. Wait until tomorrow to finish."
"But I can’t!” the Lord protested, “I am so close to finishing this creation that is so close to my own heart. She already heals herself when she is sick AND can feed a family of six on a pound of hamburger and can get a nine year old to stand in the shower."
The Angel moved closer and touched the woman, “But you have made her so soft, Lord.”
“Yes, she is soft”, the Lord agreed, “But I have also made her tough. You have no idea what she can endure or accomplish."
“Will she be able to think?”, asked the inquisitive Angel.
The Lord smiled and replied, “Not only will she be able to think, she will be able to reason, and negotiate."
The Angel then noticed something and reached out and touched the woman’s cheek. “Oops, it looks like you have a leak with this model. I told you that you were trying to put too much into this one."
“That’s not a leak.” The Lord objected. “That is a tear!” “What’s the tear for? the Angel asked.
The Lord said, “The tear is her way of expressing her joy, her sorrow, her disappointment, her pain, her loneliness, her grief, and her pride."
The Angel was impressed. “You are a genius, Lord. You thought of everything! Truly, You do all things well… Moms are truly amazing!"
My mother is wonderful and I am so grateful and blessed to have her as my mother! I love you!

When God Made Mothers
